FAQ

What is your booking process?

Inquire about your availability for your date!

On average my couple’s book about a year in advance. If it’s within a year still get in touch!

All dates are available until they are booked.

From there I love to either meet you and your fiancé for coffee or a video call. This is when we talk about our favorite movies like Star Wars (not the newest ones those suck) and Dune 2.

$1000 is due at booking to reserve the date as a retainer/deposite. 50% of the total cost is non-refundable. All reminding balance is due one week before your wedding.

Do you shoot film?

Yes. But not always.

I do not guarantee any specific amount of film photos.

There are a million variables that affect this. But if film is a priority for you please let me know!

Do you have a travel fee?

For weddings outside of the Milwaukee, Madison, and Chicago area there will be a travel fee assessed on a per event basis.

For out of state & international weddings I charge the cost of a plane ticket and three days of lodging. Because I and any team members need to arrive well before your day to mitigate the risk of any airline delays.

I will travel to wherever you want to celebrate!

Can we see a full wedding gallery?

Definitely! Just let me know by emailing me at weddings@derrickparsons.com and I am happy to send over a full gallery or two. If you give me your time of year and location info I’ll try and find a similar gallery to send over.

How many photos will we get?

There is no limit to how many photos I deliver. Any number of images that meet my quality standard and help tell your story will be delivered.

When do we get our photos?

Waiting is no fun.

For every wedding I deliver a sneak peek of some of the best photos from the day within 48 hours. Sneak peeks are usually around 20 photos.

Getting everything ready takes some time. All photos are always delivered within 8 weeks.

Do you edit the photos?

Yes!

This is a non negotiable and is included in any photo session of any kind I do.

I want the photos to look as good as possible.

Photoshop & retouching?

I don’t do too much of this. Subtlety is everything here.

My default principle on this is I get rid of anything that is not normally there. God forbid, a pimple day of will never be seen again.

More extreme examples such as adding or removing people are taken on with a rate dependent on the scope of the edit.

Can we have the RAW files?

No.

RAW files are like raw ingredients for food, they’re not safe to consume.

What I will deliver is full size edited JPEG’s that are large enough to print a billboard. If you really wanted to.

How do we get the photos?

I deliver digital galleries where you can view and download your photos. The photos will be available at the full resolution from my cameras.

The galleries are easily shareable with family and friends. If you would like to see an example just ask!

Do you photograph LGBTQ+ weddings?

Of course!

Wedding photo albums?

I am so proud to offer handcrafted heirloom albums made in the USA that are designed to tell your unique story.

Each album is made by hand with archival material and features thick, lay-flat pages printed on photographic paper. Please inquire for pricing.

Do we need a second photographer?

Almost always I go solo.

There are certain things and situations where I do recommend adding one of my associates with me:

Having multiple locations for getting ready.

Maybe it’s just a really big wedding. Around the 200 guest number I start to recommending having another camera and set of eyes with me.

How much does a second photographer cost?

You can expect an additional $100/hour. All of that money goes to them.

Rescheduling

I will be there rain/blizzard or shine. If there is a true “act of god” type of event we can roll forward to a mutually available date at no additional cost.

If a mutually available date cannot be found I can have an associate take my place for a reduced fee, or refund for any services not provided.

Drone photos and footage?

Yes! I am a certified SUAS pilot under Part 107.

Weather, location, and timeline permitting, the drones will always fly.

Because of the variables involved I cannot guarantee drone images or photos. However we will always fly when we can.

What camera do you use?

I work with a small variety of cameras and lenses including but not limited to:

Nikon Z9
Nikon Zf
Nikon f100

50mm 1.2 is my favorite and main lens. Usually paired with a 28mm, or 35mm. With many other tools available as needed.

Are you insured?

Yes. And I am happy to get a certificate of insurance for your venue if needed.
