The Perfect Milwaukee Engagement Photo Location: The Mitchell Park Domes


When Amy and Michael reached out to me about their engagement photo session at the Milwaukee Domes, I could already tell this was going to be a day to remember. The Domes are such an iconic spot for any Wisconsin photographer—a little slice of tropical paradise in the heart of Milwaukee, no matter the season. And since early spring in Wisconsin is still pretty chilly, we had the perfect excuse to escape into the warmth of the Desert and Tropical Domes. 


An Engagement Session in Style


Amy and Michael showed up looking absolutely stunning for their engagement session. Amy’s elegant outfit paired perfectly with Michael’s sharp suit, creating a timeless look that popped against the lush greenery and striking cacti. These two have such an effortless chemistry that made every shot feel natural and full of emotion. Whether they were sharing a quiet moment under the towering palms or laughing together near the little succulents, their connection was undeniable.


The Desert Dome: A Cool Backdrop


We started in the Desert Dome, where the earthy tones and striking textures created the perfect atmosphere. There’s something so magical about how the light filters through the cacti and desert plants. Amy and Michael’s laughter echoed in the space as we explored the winding paths. All of the best photos happen in those off script, truly candid moments. When you forget the camera is there.

The Tropical Dome: Lush and Dreamy


This one is my favorite. The Tropical Dome, which felt like stepping straight into a rainforest. It is close to 80 degrees and humid all year. And relative to the temperature outside, it felt like a sauna. 


The vibrant greens, cascading ferns, and occasional pops of colorful flowers were the perfect contrast to the Desert Dome’s more earthy tones. It was easy to lose ourselves in the beauty of the space. Amy and Michael’s energy shifted to something a little more energetic here. This part of the session felt like a mini adventure, complete with the soothing sound of waterfalls in the background.

If you’re considering an engagement session or even a Milwaukee Domes wedding reception, (Hello Greenhouse No. 7) let me tell you: this location offers it all. The controlled climate makes it a reliable option year-round, especially during those unpredictable Wisconsin days, which is every day it seems. Plus, the variety between the Desert, Tropical, and Show Domes means there’s no shortage of stunning backdrops for every couple’s unique style. (Pro tip: You do need a photo permit to shoot here, but I’ve got you covered for admission for up to three people!)

What really made this session stand out wasn’t just the beautiful location or their impeccable outfits—it was the way Amy and Michael embraced the experience. From twirling beneath the towering plants to sharing sweet, quiet moments, they were fully present with each other. That’s the secret sauce for incredible photos: letting your love and personalities shine through. My job is simply to capture the magic as it unfolds.
