The Best Wedding Venue In Chicago: The Armour House
There’s something oh so special about a wedding at The Armour House.
In the summer the gardens are in full bloom, the evening golden light hangs around a little longer, and the whole estate feels like it’s straight out of southern France. Karolina and Jack’s day had that perfect mix of editorial style and documentary moments. The kind of wedding that looks like a Vogue cover shoot, but also feels completely full of emotion with everyone simply living in the moment. Enjoying all the planning and people coming together at last.
As an Armour House wedding photographer, this venue is always a dream to come back to. It’s one of the most beautiful Chicago estate wedding venues, with sprawling gardens, elegant architecture, and interiors that feel timeless without being stuffy. You really don’t have to do much decorating, the estate does most of the heavy lifting on its own.
It is simply one of my favorite venues, and I have been to hundreds.
“You made two dorks look like movie stars!”
When we first talked, Karolina and Jack told me they loved my combination of editorial and documentary photography. They wanted images that looked polished and intentional but still felt honest to the day. When it is “photo time” I am happy to guide you through with direction and posing. The entire rest of the day however, I want you to live and enjoy every single moment and forget the camera is there at all.
I could not be prouder with not only the result, but the experience of the day. As you can see there are nothing but smiles, happy tears, and that glowing look towards each other all day.
A Classic Chicago Estate Wedding Setting
Although Karolina and Jack are Chicago-based, they chose the Armour House because it feels like enough of an escape from the city while still being close enough for guests. Tucked into the Lake Forest area, it’s one of those venues that immediately feels grand without being overwhelming. The Armour House is perfect for couples planning Chicago weddings who want something elegant and relaxed at the same time.
The estate’s gardens were in peak summer form, even with a bit of wildfire smoke softening the sky. If anything, it gave the light a dreamy, hazy quality that made the whole day feel even more cinematic.
Between the formal gardens and the stately interior rooms, we never considered leaving the property for photos. Which is one of the biggest perks of planning an Armour House wedding.
And if you’re planning a wedding at The Armour House, seeing the estate from above really shows off just how stunning the grounds are.
A First Look on the Grand Staircase
Karolina and Jack chose to do a first look on the grand staircase. First looks are always one of my favorite parts of the day as a documentary wedding photographer. For a first look I might help set things up, but this moment is yours, we don’t step back in until you tell us you're ready. Of course documenting everything from a mindful distance.
There’s something about that quiet moment before the day really starts, just the two of them, tucked away from everyone else, that always feels meaningful. Jack’s reaction when he saw Karolina said everything.
No big performance, just a genuine moment between them. Those are always the moments that end up meaning the most.
From there, we wandered through the gardens and into the house for portraits that leaned into that editorial feel they loved. The classic architecture inside the estate gave us the perfect backdrop for clean, timeless images.
Stunning Details Without Overdoing It
One of the best things about planning a wedding at this Chicago estate wedding venue is that you don’t need to overcomplicate the decor. Love Lush Events kept things elegant and simple, letting the space shine.
The florals added just the right amount of color and softness without competing with the surroundings. And the dessert spread from Oakmill Bakery was almost too pretty to eat, almost.
Between the florals, the architecture, and the natural beauty of the estate, everything came together in a way that felt cohesive without trying too hard.

A Perfect Summer Estate Wedding
Karolina and Jack’s day felt effortless in the best way. Editorial but not stiff. Beautiful but still very much personal. Planned in a way that allowed nothing but joy and spontaneous moments with the people that mean the most.
That balance is always the goal. It allows me to create photos that feel as good as they look.
