Wisconsin Fall Wedding Perfection

There’s something about a late October wedding that feels so magical—maybe it’s the crispness in the air, the cheese and beer in the breeze, the golden leaves clinging to the trees, or just the coziness that comes with fall. Sam and Jesse’s wedding at the Stoughton Country Club was all of that and more. It was one of those days that reminds me why I love being a wedding photographer in Wisconsin.

The day began at the Stoughton Country Club itself, where both Sam and Jesse got ready. Now, I’ll be honest—the getting-ready spaces were a little interesting. The women’s locker room was small and windowless, while the men’s locker room was absolutely massive, but still windowless. The country club must not have many women members.

But you know what? Challenges like that are part of the fun. I grabbed their detail items and headed outside to make the most of the natural light. If you’re planning a wedding at Stoughton Country Club, trust me—taking those detail shots outdoors is the move.

I Have Become A Huge First Look Fan

Sam and Jesse chose to do a first look under the most gorgeous trees near the clubhouse, surrounded by stunning fall colors. It was such a heartfelt moment—you could see all the nerves melt away as soon as they saw each other. Jesse’s expression said it all, and Sam’s smile was radiant. First looks are always one of my favorite parts of the day, and this one was truly special.

The ceremony was held at the lakeside, overlooking Lake Kegonsa. If you haven’t been to Stoughton Country Club, it’s perched right on the shores of this beautiful lake, part of the Madison lake chain. The breeze off the water was a little brisk, but the view? Absolutely worth it. Late October gave us a tapestry of fall colors, and the backdrop was almost as beautiful as the vows Sam and Jesse exchanged. There’s something about a waterfront ceremony that feels extra romantic—even when you’re bundled up just a bit!

Wedding Essentials: The Sunset Session

After the ceremony and a few quick family photos, the real adventure began. The golf course was closed for the day, and we had the whole place to ourselves, complete with the keys to some golf carts! We chased the golden hour light to some breathtaking spots, like rows of colorful trees and fields of tall, swaying grass. Riding around the course with Sam and Jesse, laughing and soaking in the moment, was such a highlight of the day.

These moments to just enjoy each other and the beauty around you—that’s why I always recommend sneaking away for a sunset session. I will take 15 minutes close to sunset vs an hour at noon 100% of the time.

Fall Evenings Are Perfection

The reception brought everyone back inside the Stoughton Country Club, which is such an intimate and cozy venue. It’s the kind of space where you really feel connected to everyone there. Fire pits out on the deck brought such a warm touch and added to the family cabin vibe. The standout detail? The dessert table, hands down. They had a gorgeous cake and an endless supply of Crumbl chocolate chip cookies! Sometimes, keeping it simple really does make the biggest impact.

Sam and Jesse’s wedding day was filled with so much love, laughter, and personality. From the emotional first look to the adventure on the golf course and the cozy reception, every moment felt true to them.

If you’re planning a wedding at Stoughton Country Club (or anywhere in the Madison area!), I’d love to help you capture your day in a way that feels as unique as your love story.
