Dream Summer Wedding At Memorial Union
When you think of a perfect wedding day, it looks a lot like Nick and Allison’s celebration at the Memorial Union in Madison. It was the kind of day that photographers dream about—early summer sunshine, a venue brimming with charm, and a couple so in love that their joy was absolutely contagious. If you’re considering a Wedding at Memorial Union, let me tell you, it’s nothing short of magic.
Getting Ready at the Memorial Union
The day began in the heart of Madison—the iconic Memorial Union. This historic venue set the tone for the day, with its blend of elegance and relaxed lakefront vibes. Nick and Allison got ready on-site, surrounded by their closest friends and family. The room buzzed with excitement as final touches were made. Allison’s dress hung by the windows in the commons, catching the soft morning light, while Nick shared laughs with his groomsmen nearby. Eating bacon in a star wars t-shirt, like the lord intended.
From the very start, it was clear this day was going to be filled with love, laughter, and plenty of unforgettable moments.
A First Look to Remember
Nick and Allison decided to have their first look on the stone observation level of the Memorial Union Terrace, overlooking the sparkling waters of Lake Mendota. And wow, what a moment it was! Nick’s reaction when he turned around to see Allison for the first time was priceless. Tears, smiles, and so much love radiated between them. The terrace, with its vibrant atmosphere and stunning views, provided the perfect backdrop for this moment.
THE CEREMONY BY THE LAKE
Their ceremony took place on the second level of the Memorial Union Terrace outside of the Tripp Commons, a location that offered not only breathtaking views of the lake but also an space for their loved ones who had traveled from across the country. The decor was a celebration in itself—bright summer colors that perfectly complemented the blue hues of the lake and sky. As Nick and Allison exchanged vows, a not so gentle breeze carried their words across the terrace, creating a moment that felt beautifully connected to the surroundings.
CAPTURING MEMORIES AROUND THE MEMORIAL UNION
After the ceremony, we explored the Memorial Union for their photoshoot. The vibrant, bustling Terrace and the peaceful lakeshore offered a mix of fun and romance. Whether it was the iconic Memorial Union chairs, the ivy-covered walls, or the dock along Lake Mendota, every corner of this venue seemed to reflect a piece of Nick and Allison’s story.
One of my favorite moments was their sunset session. With wind and waves dancing around us on the docks, the golden light was simply unforgettable. The waves coating our lenses in that wonderful algae water only the Madison lake chain can provide. Thank you agriculture run-off.
Nick and Allison held each other close in the wind and waves, their laughter filling the air—it was pure magic.
The sunset was one of those magic sunsets at the terrace that only seem to happen there with a pitcher or spotted cow and a cone of Babcock ice cream. Union Utopia is my personal favorite, and this sunset matched that energy.
CAPTURING THE DAY ON FILM
Beyond photography, I had the honor of creating the highlight film for Nick and Allison’s wedding. My friend and associate Jack captured all the footage on the day, ensuring no special moment went unnoticed. From the early morning preparations to the stunning sunset session and lively reception, every beautiful detail was woven together in the highlight film. It was such a joy to edit their story, blending the laughter, tears, and unforgettable moments into a keepsake they can treasure forever.
Jack, my friend and favorite, go to videographer was with me for this day. And he absolutely cooked with this wonderful footage.
There’s too many good moments to name. But one was Rob the planner, coordinator, and DJ serenading all of us with a spectacular vocal performance. Seriously.
A JOYFUL RECEPTION AT TRIPP COMMONS
The celebration continued at Tripp Commons, where the reception felt like one big, joyful family gathering. Guests mingled over delicious food provided by Memorial Union Catering and admired the gorgeous floral arrangements by B-Style Floral, which brought the vibrant summer theme indoors. The room sparkled with energy as heartfelt toasts were shared and the dance floor came alive. Thanks to the seamless coordination of OSO in Love Events, every moment of the evening flowed effortlessly, allowing Nick and Allison to truly soak up every second of their special day.
