A Morning of Anticipation on a Hot Fall Day
If you've ever wondered what it feels like to step into your own fairytail, let me tell you about Ella and Trae's wedding at English Valley Bed & Breakfast. Nestled in the heartland of Iowa, this venue offers the perfect mix of rustic charm and timeless beauty that makes it a dream setting for couples and photographers alike.
The day began at English Valley Bed & Breakfast, where Ella and her bridal party got ready in the cozy, vintage aesthetic rooms. It was anything but a classic fall day in Iowa, Mother Nature had a bit of a twist in store—temperatures soared into the nineties, and the wind roared across the fields like something out of "Interstellar." Driving to the venue that morning, I couldn’t help but feel a sense of adventure in the air. And despite the unusual weather, Ella and Trae were calm, collected, and so ready to start this new chapter together.
The First Look: A Quiet Moment in the Trees
For their first look, together with Ella and Trae we chose a tucked-away nook among the trees on the property—a little oasis where the wind felt just a bit gentler. The moment they saw each other was pure magic. Tears flowed, smiles lit up their faces, and you could feel the love radiating between them. Capturing those authentic, unscripted emotions is why I love being an Iowa wedding photographer. Moments like these remind me that it’s not just about taking pretty photos; it’s about preserving memories that will be cherished for generations.
The Ceremony
Thankfully, the barn at English Valley is equipped with air conditioning, making it a welcome retreat from the heat. The barn’s interior is a treasure trove of vintage charm, with carefully curated details that make every corner feel special. Surrounded by their closest friends and family, Ella and Trae exchanged vows in a ceremony that was equal parts heartfelt and joyful.
Golden Hour and a Classic Car
After the ceremony, we explored the property for their photoshoot, and let me tell you, English Valley did not disappoint. One of my favorite moments was heading up to the top of the hills close to golden hour. The light was getting soft and dreamy, casting a warm glow over the landscape. And then there was the getaway car—a stunning classic that added a touch of old-school glamour to the day. We captured some unforgettable shots in and around the car, blending the elegance of the vehicle with the natural beauty of the surroundings.
Reception at Poweshiek County Fairgrounds
The reception shifted gears, focusing less on decor and more on celebrating with their guests. Held at the Poweshiek County Fairgrounds, it was a lively, down-to-earth affair filled with laughter, dancing, and plenty of love. It felt like a family reunion in the best way, with all of their people coming together just to celebrate.
As the sun began to set, I stole Ella and Trae away for a quick sunset session outside. The light was absolutely breathtaking—a perfect ending to an unforgettable day.
Final Thoughts
Ella and Trae’s wedding was a beautiful reminder of what’s truly important: being present, celebrating love, and surrounding yourself with the people who matter most. English Valley Bed & Breakfast provided the perfect backdrop for their story, and I’m so grateful I got to be there to capture it all.
